Budget HTPC Build

Hey all

I'm planning to build a new HTPC. I will be using it to watch Movies/TV Shows/Live TV I've got a few dilemmas. 

 

AMD or Inter CPU?

Itx or mATX Build?

What case?

 

I've got a spare SSD and GTX 960 so I'm good for that atleast.

I'd go with an Athlon X4 950, a wifi AM4 ITX motherboard, 8GB of RAM (the Athlon isn't based on Ryzen so you don't need to buy high clocked RAM), and a 2TB HDD since you might download content.

 

EDIT: Case is up to you, but the one I'd recommend the most is the Fractal Design Core 500. It's an ITX case with decent airflow, it looks good, it's small, and it has a 5.25" expansion bay.

ITX or µATX depends on the case.
The case depends on your preferences.
The Fractal Design Note 202 is usually a good choice and there is a version that comes with a PSU.

If you will watch anything that requires the Playready 3.0 DRM (e.g. 4K Netflix), get a Kaby Lake or Coffee Lake CPU, and use the iGPU. Otherwise, it sounds like a basic mITX HTPC case will do.
