Posted October 22, 2017 Hey everyone! I need some help selecting some parts for a PC build. Here's my idea: I'm trying to build a PC that I can take on the go (maybe in a backpack if possible?) but considering that I already have a nice PC at home, I don't want to shell out a ton on a new one. It doesn't need to be anything too fancy, as long as it can play eSports games at decent framerates and fit into a small case. I need help/ideas selecting some parts for this build, mainly an ideal case but also any cheap (I'd like to source from eBay if possible) components that anyone is aware of that are still relevant by today's eSports standards but are cheaper than building an all-new PC. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated! Meh some build specs... Meh some inspirational quote meh... I should mention that I'm really trying to go dirt cheap here. I like the idea of a 960 though, but I would consider an older generation used CPU if it means I can build this thing cheaper. It is my secondary rig. Meh some build specs... Meh some inspirational quote meh... I think that it could be possible for you to use an alto case as a computer case. They make a few that are backpack like that you could possible mod somehow. Or even get a hard styled non backpack with the shoulder strap to carry it. I think a tenor sax case is too big and soprano is too small, so I would search for alto cases if you want to explore this idea. You would just need to take out the innards and add some ventilation. Or just screw in the mobo and see what happens Case: InWin 303 Motherboard: Asus TUF X570-Plus Processor: Ryzen R9-3900x GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Ram: 32 GB DDR4 3000 MHZ PSU: Corsair CX750M Storage: 1TB Intel 660p NVME SSD and a 2TB Seagate 7200RPM HDD Mouse: Logitech G600 Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 Headphones: Steelseries Arctis 7 Audio: Shure PGA58 with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/849563-need-creative-pc-build-help/#findComment-10590445 Share on other sites
 It wouldn't have occurred to me that an instrument case would be a good size for this, and probably have a carrying handle as well. I'll definitely look into it! Meh some build specs... Thanks for the reply though! A lot has changed, you can get a laptop with a GTX1050. With the idea of "portable" desktop, you will still need a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Posted October 22, 2017 Author Yeah sorry in case I wasn't clear enough I'm looking for something "dirt cheap" using eBay parts. If I had to specify I'd like to keep it under 400, cheaper the better. That pretty much rules out any relevant gaming laptops. Meh some build specs... Meh some inspirational quote meh... I get good enough performance on 1080p. I would totally recommend it for a secondary gaming rig. I'm upgrading to a 1070 soon so I guess I will be selling. Does anyone know how much these are worth? Desktop no matter how small isn't portable cause he still needs a monitor and peripherals. Anyway his budget is $400 and less. I mean if you get a square case like I was talking about, I would say that you would have enough room for a headset, mouse, and keyboard. Assuming that the OP wants this as a secondary rig he already has peripherals. So all he needs is a monitor at wherever he would set up. Yes that's correct I already have peripherals I can use for my secondary build, really just looking for good ideas as to the most economical options while keeping it small form factor. My current issue is finding older ITX boards compatible with cheaper CPUs or cheaper more recent CPUs which have more readily available boards/components. Meh some build specs...
