best Headphone for competitive FPS gaming

AssassinXXXX

Hello,

I just want to get a great headphone for FPS games only. I've read many topics nothing really helps.

So what do you think guys? best accurate Imaging for tracking Footsteps and every thing it makes the headphone the best for FPS competitive gaming, What is that headphone?

was thinking of  K712, Audio Technica ATH-AD series, Sennheiser headphones, and Beyer Daynamic series. What would you all recommend?

Feel free to add any that are better than the above mentioned.

I have Sound Blaster Z sound card 600Ohm.

My price range is up to $450 or even more, just want the best ever.

Thanks in Advance

I have the ATH-AD700X, good soundstage and imaging, very airy but lacking bass impact.....if soundstage and imaging are the main concern (for hearing footsteps and other audio cues), then yes, AD700X would be nice. Ignore those that come in to recommend the ATH-M50/50X, closed back, very narrow soundstage, muddied mids but with boosted bass, not ideal for gaming. K712 should be good. DT990 would be a good gaming headphone as it has good soundstage, clear mids and treble (which may be too hot for many, would suggest you audition it IF you're thinking of getting it). Beyerdynamic has its house signature sound which is characterized by sparkly treble, (I enjoy it immensely because I'm something of a treble head) and somewhat boosted bass....V shape sound in other words.

Thanks a lot for reply,

But don't you think that is the anything higher than the ATH-AD700X would be better? like the ATH-AD900X, ATH-AD1000X, and the ATH-AD2000X, or it doesn't matter it's just for selling?

And could you tell me please more about the ATH-AD700X? I mean when you play fps game and there's someone above you could you tell where he is accurately. like in PUBG or Rainbow most times you can't tell which floor he is in.

I'd owned the ATH-AD2000 before and it's great for FPS, but it does have a pretty hot treble, too much even for me! It has a pretty wide soundstage and very good imaging, and female vocals with the ATH-AD2000 is to die for (I own a number of higher end cans, none does female vocals like the ATH-AD2000). If it's at all possible, do try to audition these higher end cans, sometimes, others may say good things about a can, but you may find the sound signatures of these cans to be NOT to your liking.

I recall reading some good things about the AT ATH-W5000 (was told that I should try an AT 'woody') so I jumped on one but was totally disappointed with what I'd heard. It simply sounded wrong (perhaps my DAC stack/combos didn't jell well with the W5000). IF you want to buy pricier cans, do try to audition them and let your ears be the judge. IF that isn't an option, it's best to read as many reviews as possible and look for what is common opinion/impressions among the various reviews of, say, any particular can.

You can, of course, go for the ATH-AD900X/1000X, but first be sure that you like the sound.....the lower 'AD' range have that typical wide soundstage, good imaging but weak bass.....the higher 'AD' range (I think the AD1000X and higher) may have better bass (the AD2000 I had certainly has a nice tight bass, way better than the AD700X at least). The AD1000X is certainly an option for you, but I'd suggest you read up on it and decide for yourself IF auditioning it is not possible.
