So my father needs a better microphone and webcam for work video calls. What good microphone and webcam would you recommend? Budget is fairly open. I mean he doesn't need something in the $400 range or anything. Is it better to go with XLR or with just a USB microphone? Can an XLR microphone work with Skype and other video messaging systems? Would I need an audio interface? I am fairly lost when it comes to this so just looking for input.

skype doesnt really use high quality codecs anyway, its not worth getting an extreme high quality mic for that for example :P a simple gaming headset such as a kingston cloud 1 would even do :)

as for webcam just get a good clear 1080p cam :P check reviews on those xD

or a At 2020 USB if thats in budget

That microphone is way to overkill if you ask me. When I say he doesn't really have a budget I am more saying that whatever is the best option for the cheapest, not what is the most overkill system I can get.

He doesn't want a headset plus this is for work not gaming.

Why? u can use it without 43v phantom power though.

Using phantom power will make it louder..

Get $25 microphone like Neweer NW-800..it sounded very good for the price and enough for things like skype..

Its condenser and can be powered with Phantom power to get the most out of it if u need it.

Here's the video

I am thinking that an XLR microphone is way to overkill now after doing some reading. Plus it seems like too much trouble for such a simple purpose.

Blue snowball/yeti and Logitech c920

This is what I was thinking of going with. Can the Blue Snowball attach to a nice big boom arm so that he can hide the microphone behind his monitor when he is not using it? The arm would need to be able to reach like 20" in each direction to get over his monitor and then close to his mouth.
