LGA1151 vs FCLGA1151

can you use the LGA1151 with the new coffee lake processers

They're the same thing. FCLGA (Flip-Chip Land Grid Array) is the full name (the full acronym) for LGA. 

 

I guess a three letter acronyms sound and look better to consumers so they just use LGA most of the time.

Are you asking if you can use pre-existing LGA 1151 board with the new cpu's? if so then no. The new Coffee Lake CPU's can only be used on Z370 Chipset motherboards and are not backwards compatible with Z170/270 Motherboards unfortunately =/

the problem is due to a bit of a change up in the layout of pins i think. They basically shot themselves in the foot a bit with how many people wont be willing toss away a Z170/270 board they just bought for the previous generation chips, just to buy a new one a year later. A bit unfortunate, but it had to be done to get the performance out of the new CPU's to make them an actual upgrade from prior chips.
