Help with finding a tablet

Kind of been considering the idea of getting a tablet for awhile now. Long ago I'd use my laptop whenever I'd go out to places, but I haven't used it in over a year. For awhile now I considered the idea of getting a tablet, me getting more use out of it than a laptop.

 

Issue being I don't really know shit about tablets. I'm doing a job where I'd always have at least 2 hours, sometimes up to 4 hours of downtime. I've been playing one of the few 3ds games I still have but that shit gets boring after awhile. One of my friends that also does the job mentioned he watches netflix and stuff on his tablet during his downtime.

 

What I'm looking for in a tablet is one that's a decent one within $200 or so. One that I can load up with movies and shows from my media center pc to watch during my downtime. I've vowed to never purchase an Apple product, so no iPad suggestions plz. Also pretty sure I wouldn't be able to load up my own movies on an Apple product. Not sure about whether to get an Android based or Windows based tablet. Kind of like the idea of a windows one more. There's some games like Civ 5 that can be played on a tablet, so would be cool to have something that could play that.

There won't be any tablets capable of playing Civ5. Take a look at those 2 in 1 laptops, that can convert to tablets.

got one to recommend then dawg? cause i know less about those kind of laptops. Civ 5 though isn't really a requirement, just a bonus

Check out , Dell XPS 2 in 1, HP Envy x360, Sceptre x360, or Lenovo Yoga 720. At least with the following

 

• Newest Intel 8th gen processors
• GeForce MX150. For better gaming performance at least a GeForce GTX1050
• Intel 7th gen HQ processor for standard non 2 in 1 laptops

I see you like Star Wars, Lenovo has a Star Wars theme based Yoga. Saw then in person, looks nice, but it does not have Intel 8th gen cpu and dedicated graphics, just onboard.

does look cool and all, but like I said, it will just be something I'd watch shows or movies on during my downtime at a job, so I really don't want to go too far over $200. So sticking with a tablet would probably be the better idea

You'll need more than $200 to get a decent tablet. The OS eats a chunk of the total internal storage. Might find better deals on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

storage really isn't an issue as long as it has expandable storage.

Unless you can find one used or refurb, this is out of your budget, but I just wanted to mention that you can load up your own movies on an iOS device. For example you can download VLC player and drop your stuff in VLC's directory. Likewise with Android's VLC app.

 

Unfortunately I have no suggestions for anything other than iPad as that's the only tablet I've ever owned. I'd probably do a Windows 2-in-1 when it comes time to replace my iPad or laptop to consolidate it to device.
