So, I have an old gt 610 I got for free and got the adaptor for DVI to VGA. I plugged the card into my only PCI e 16x slot and plugged the DVI into the card, the computer turns on but no post. I decided after many tries to put a 1x wireless adaptor into my 16x slot and see if that did anything. When i went to turn the computer on with the wireless adaptor in the slot no post but fans and stuff turned on. Any ideas?

Plug speakers into the audio jack on the IO port of the mobo, and start it up. If it beeps, the mobo isn't the problem. If it doesn't, mobo is likely knackered. What are your specs?

Actually with the GPU installed it does not beep.

Ok. Do fans on your chassis/gpu/cooler/psu spin up (with the gt 610 in there)? Check all your cables, make sure it's all seated properly. Grab some compressed air and dust out everything, especially your PCI-E slots as installing the gt 610 may have dislodged dust and caused it to fall into the slot.

If you still have no luck, try booting without drives or fans plugged in

When i start the system with the gt 610 in there everything seems to be working all fans spin hard drives vibrate etc.

Try:

 - RAM in different slots

 - Check CPU pins aren't bent (i know you probably didn't touch it but check anyway.

 - Make sure nothing is touching the board that shouldn't be

 - Put your old gpu (or if your motherboard has onboard just take out the gt 610) and try booting without anything in your PCI-E slots
