Change from G4560 to ?

Hey,

Now i've got Pentium G4560, i'm thinking of changing it to i5-6500. Is it a good idea to pick this one ? Or is there a better pick in this price range ? Let me hear your suggestions.

1060 3gb Gigabyte OC,

8gb RAM 3000 MHz/ CL14

R5 1600 is a compelling option right now. Better multicore performance than the i5 6500 (stable framerates), and overclocking capability will leave you room to expand.

what's your motherboard? iirc you can easily upgrade it's BIOS to accommodate 7th gen intel.

 

not sure in your area but here the 7500 and 6500 is really close in pricing.

Get an i7 (6700/7700)
Or change platform to i5 8400 or i7 8700 or R5 1600

Sure, but B350s are cheap as chips and AMD is not changing the chipset for upcoming ryzen generations. Intel changes it every update... Each to his own though.

oh this already supports 7th gen out of the box. the i5-7500 might be a better choice then. but please do check the price difference. IIRC the performance diff is very minimal.

IMO coffee lake seems a little pointless, almost like a quick moneygrab by intel before cannonlake. OP could wait for cannonlake, but then ryzen gen. 2 will be out by then

Well, I get that there's some prejudice against AMD for their past shitty CPUs, but hey, each to his own. Right now at least, ryzen is good for new users. Sure, I wouldn't change from a 6600k, but for someone like OP with a G4560, it's an excellent first step into mid-high end CPUs.

I'm not that much into swaping to latest CPU's, i'd rather wait for them to cheap a bit and then grab them This configuration what i have right now pleases me more than enough. Thank you for your fast response. Topic is solved
