Hey,

I have a server here that I bought 1 year ago, basically any idea's I had back then I forgot.

Becouse I'm in Belgium I still had a 750GB Data cap and anything I was gonna run was using too much data.

My server: Dell R710
RAM: 72GB DDR3 ECC

Disks: 6x 300 15K SAS (Raid 5)
4Days ago I switched to the highest business plan to get unlimited data.

I hope to see good idea's :)
(No PfSense or PfSense, I'd prefer kill the router I hire from my ISP)

please explain how you're gonna blast past that data cap? i know people who do regularly, but i cant figure out how..

that said... (rackmount) servers are the kind of toy you dont really buy without purpose.. you could toss some gameservers on it, toss some bigger drives in (in raid 1 perhaps?) and use it as a storage appliance for your important data and media library, if you have the necessary accessories you could toss a GPU in it to have some steam in-home streaming goodness as well, etc.

Not possible in Belgium I guess, after 750GB I usually have 10mbps down and 1mbps up.
Now I have a business plan which costs 95€ a month for 240mbps download and 30mbps upload (unlimited data) (Welcome to Belgium)

Welcome to my ISP (On a non-business support line they did nothing against a 3days long DDoS which blasted me over my data cap) on a business plan it is probably even worse (Static IP)

I can reinstall another PC and make this but I don't really play games.

based on those figures.. i'm pretty sure we were on the same plan, you *do* know that both the cap and the slowdown is only applicable between noon and midnight right?

well.. if you're on a private plan, you'rre not supposed to run servers ;)

also, turning off your modem between 1-2AM will give you a new IP address, supposedly solving the DDoS issue?

Please read this:

I have a static IP
I'm on a business plan

My previous plan was Telenet Fibernet 200.

I'm even allowed to run a mailserver.
