DD-WRT router

Anybody have any experience they want to share with a DD-WRT router it seems this may be my only good way to setup this router for access to my network from the outside many seem to offer a VPN setup right out of the box

My NAS: The storage miser: OS unRAID v. 6.9.0-beta25 / CPU Intel i7 6700 / Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500 Watt 80 Plus / ASUS Maximus viii Hero / 32GB Gskill RipJaw DDR4 3200Mhz / HP Mellanox ConnectX-2 10 GbE PCI-e G2 Dual SFP+ Ported Ethernet HCA NIC / 9 Drives total 29TB - 1 4TB seagate parity - 7 4TB WD Red data - 1 1TB laptop drive data - and 2 240GB Sandisk SSD's cache / Headless

 

Why did I buy this server: OS unRAID v. 6.9.0-beta25 / Dell R710 enterprise server with dual xeon E5530 / 48GB ecc ddr3 / Dell H310 6Gbps SAS HBA w/ LSI 9211-8i P20 IT / 4 450GB sas drives / headless

 

Just another server: OS Proxmox VE / Dell poweredge R410

I have DDWRT running. Its solid, but some features are a pain to setup. Just make sure you read the peacock thread at the DDWRT forum for installation instructions. Check the Wiki for VPN setup info. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I was actually going to cheat I see some routers have DDWRT pre-installed and ready to go, I built my NAS and its coming together nicely just seems to me that it would be golden to be able to access it outside of the network as I do a lot of stuff on my laptop while outside the network

DDWRT does have all the VPN options from what I have seen. And yes, if you can find it pre-installed on a router, which I didnt know they did, you should have a much easier time. The Wiki pages will shed more light on the VPN options, but Im pretty sure all the major ones are covered. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
