Hi guys , new n00b here.

been following the Youtube channel for some time now and found my way into the forums.

Well anyways, here is the issue.

I'm trying to figure out what way to go, my system needs a serius upgrade, right now it cant' handle any of the newer high tier games. Tried the newer CoD and Battlefield 1. CoD infinate and after that is a total nogo.  Also DCS and Flightsims' , Trainsims and so on are gettig pritty sh**y framerates.

So my current system setup is rather dated .

Processor :  Intel I5-2500K

Motherboard , MSI B75MA- socket -1155
cooler.  Noctua NH-L12
PSU-  XFX ProSeries core ed 650W

RAM :  8GB of Kingston DDR3 1600 mhz HyperX

Videocard : XFX Radeon R9 280 3GB GDDR5

Also an 128GB SSD and a 3tb HDD

All packed into a CM HAF912 midi case.

Now here are my options as I see it.

Option 1
Upgrade the RAM (max I can fit on the board is 16gb and Socket 1155 motherboards are OOP).  and get a 1080ti or simular videocard

Option 2

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X,
Asus  GeFiorce GTX 1070ROG Strix

ASUS ROG Strix B350F Socket AM4

Corsair Vengance DDR4 2666mhz  16/32 GB

Option 3

Intel I7-7700K processor and same motherboard as option 2 in an Intel config

the rest remains the same as option 2

Concidering a new case but the PSU is still good at it's 650W.

(Option 4 , Intel 8700 processor and hardware when it is released)

These options are adapted to my budget.  As I live in Norway I have to shop locally and we do not have Amazon or Newegg over here.  Importing hardware does also get a pritty nasty hit from both customs duty and extra VAT charge + shipping.

You really should have gotten an unlocked motherboard. There is a guy in Oslo selling his 2600K for 1000 nok on Finn atm. Overclocked, Sandy Bridge is still awesome.

An 8400 and a 1070 will be a nice upgrade. I'll make a list on prisjakt

8 gb ram should be fine, check task manager for ram usage when you're playing to see where the holdup is (probably your cpu)

1600x is just a factory overclocked 1600, and if you go that route an extra $3-5 is worth it to get 3000mhz+ ram with ryzen. Perfectly fine for gaming unless you want super high refresh rates in all the titles.

7700k is fine, but I would choose ryzen myself because lower cost and amd committed to release cpus on am4 until 2020.

and lastly, coffee lake is nice and all... but no

I'm assuming the budget is around 10k nok? Based on the prices in option 2.

You could get the 2600K and 1080 Ti, but it can only turbo up to 3,8 GHz with its 4 cores, which might become an issue. I found another guy selling his 2700K for 1000 nok. Slightly faster clockspeed.

How about the 8400 and a 1080?

Seon,  my budget would be in the 10-12000 nok range. , can go to 13 k , my wife's gonna kill me anyway.   I have more or less settled on the Ryzen as it's a newer processor.  Have been looking at Coffy lake (horrible name btw..) but I don't know about that one. I'l bet it's got quite a few bugs to work out and will not make for a stable system for 3-5 months. That's the way it usually goes anyway.

I have not made any purchase yet so there are some room for manuvering.     getting a used processor is not an option as I see it, unless it's a 7700K at a really nice price.

Cheers :)

Tag me by writing @ in front of the name to tag.

Coffee Lake is the refresh of the refresh of Skylake, so it shouldn't have many issues. For gaming, it'll perform better than Ryzen, but it'll be be a bit more expensive. Single core performance is still very important in games, and unlocked Intel CPUs are around 20-30% faster in that area. Of course, it will only make a difference at well over 100 FPS.

But the GPU is the priority anyway, so try to get a 1080 Ti If you can.
