How does this look?

I have a microcenter near by where I may possible get a used but tested gtx 1080. Peripherals I still haven't decided exactly cause im already at my budget/slightly over it. Does this build look solid or does something need to be changed for better power output/performance?

I would go for a different SSD personally, probably Samsung, Crucial, or Intel(if possible).

I had chosen samsung before and the one now was a lot cheaper so i decided to switch.

Nah, The SL308 is a good SSD. SK Hynix also makes most dies in most RAM kits. No reason to go for the 850 Evo. Only competitor at the current price is the MX300

You can probably get a better cooler for just a few dollars more

yeah I just noticed that if you want an air cooler get a coolermaster or noctua they will be cheaper and great quality

Statred with a kraken and that was way outside my price range. Plus dropping that meant using more money for other places

The H7 isn't that great. Lots of good air coolers for around the same price.

https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/cpu_air_cooler_mega_test/39

You can save $10 on the HDD by getting a cheaper one, or get a 2TB HDD for $4 more.

Don't get a blower style GPU. Those run hot and loud.

750W PSU is total overkill for a single GPU system.

You can get Windows does off of Kinguin for ~$30.

A 1080 for 1080p is a bit overkill, don't you think? A 1440p 165Hz G-sync monitor costs ~$400

Corsair H55 or H60 should be fine.

Those are terrible. No better than an air cooler, they run louder, and are less reliable.

So i like the H7 cause of the LEDs and because the meshify C has a very dark tinted window.

And that graphics card was just a filler as Microcenter has used and tested 1080's that range from $470-530

I'll look into a 650W power supply incase of upgrades for future. gives me some space to work with

Im on a budget still, so 1080p seemed good to start with.

650W PSU would suffice

Also I've used some of the recent Asus blower style "turbo" gpus and their a lot quieter than normal.

Plus you can make a custom fan curve using MSI afterburner... So really alleviates all the extra noise it could cause. Plus their built to last longer lifespans and are usually cheaper.

550W would be enough, though.

You can make blower style coolers run quiet, but at the cost of higher temperatures on the GPU core than an open air cooler. That means less headroom for GPU boost.

Blower coolers are built to last longer? They usually use worse components, due to being made as cheap as possible. They do have air flow over the VRM area, though

They're backed by 5 year warranties, and a good water cooling AiO will help if ever he wants to upgrade to a overclockable processor.

There are more things to go wrong with a water cooler. More moving parts, especially on cheap pumps aren't synonymous with reliability.

The AiO doesn't have any better temps than e.g. the H7, NH-U12S/14S, D15, etc, which all cost the same, and are quieter

Well in Asus' case I know that their :

  • Dual-ball Bearing Fan runs smoother by reducing friction, further improving 4X longer card lifespan and cooling efficiency.

Ball bearing fans are quite common in higher end fans. I'm assuming they're comparing them to sleeve bearing fans. The fan is usually the first component to die in electrical equipment

I'd consider waiting on the GPU, since the new 1070TI is about to drop... Could make for some price drops or decent sales in the 1070-1080 area of the GPU market.

what if i just got a 1070? maybe even used and tested from micro center ?

dont get blower style cooler gpu, i would suggest against it as well. you can get tier 1 psu instead of buying tier 3 psu. also can get cheaper ram though i assume you are getting that for aesthetics.

Even cheaper than a 1080, good for 1080p gaming like you want to do. You can put the money into something else, like those RGB fans, or a bigger HDD, faster SSD, etc...

so maybe a 1060 6gb?

Then you'd be better off with the 1070, if ever you add monitors to the setup, or want to go in SLI, or play in a higher resolution you'll have all your bases covered.

okay so I dropped from the 1080 to the 1070, dropped form a 750W to a 550W power supply and Dropped Windows 10.
