Hello

A week ago I started a topic because I wanted to upgrade my rig (the cpu basically), but some users told me that it's not a good move and said to me that the would upgrade the Gpu instead (I can afford a 1080ti).

I don't know if the 3770 will bottleneck the 1080ti playing at 1440P with G-sync.

Some others told me to upgrade the ssd on my pc but I want to upgrade it when I can put a M.2 drive in there.

So my question is, what's the next move?? (Maybe not today, maybe not this year, but what's the thing that I should upgrade first)

For reference here is my build:

  • CPU
    Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3,4GHz
  • Motherboard
    Asus Maximus V Formula
  • RAM
    16 GB DDR3-SDRAM
  • GPU
    GTX 980 Strix
  • Case
    Corsair 760T
  • Storage
    120 SSD Plus Sanddisk + Seagate Barracuda Green ST1500DL003 1.5TB 5900 6.0Gb/s +2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm
  • PSU
    EVGA superNOVA 850 G2
  • Display(s)
    asus swift pg278q 1440p G-sync
  • Cooling
Corsair H115i All in One Watercooler
  • Keyboard
    Razer Blackwidow
  • Mouse
    Logitech G600
  • Sound
    Logitech z506
  • Operating System
    Windows 10

Thanks

If you're trying to achieve above 75Hz frame rates in games, a higher performing CPU is a must. The 1080 Ti will happily play most games at 1440p on high to maximum settings beyond 75 FPS.

I'd recommend upgrading the CPU to something more powerful, the 1080ti will definitely play games above 75fps, max/high settings 1440p. Sell the 3770 and buy a 3770k, it will overclock pretty well, given that you already have a decent cooling solution. As another suggestion, you could upgrade to a haswell based i7-4790k/4770k which requires a Z97 motherboard and reuse the RAM.

If the next move should be the cpu I think that I would go for the top of the line at the moment (right no is the 8700K?), because of the new technology and because it's "futureproof"

But when I could do the upgrade I can only make one of them, I mean, spend 800 € more or less (cpu+Mobo+ram or whatever Ti at the moment).

Edit: Whatever part I'll upgrade I will give the older one to my little brother for free xD so sell its not an option.
