This is a direct symptom of a dying hard drive. Get your data off that thing fast

I know you just built your PC but it looks like you were given a defective part. I would suggest returning/RMAing the drive so you can get a replacement

Your hard drive was defective. It sucks but sometimes this happens.

I had a 2tb Seagate Barracuda and it died on me within the first week of building my PC. As @Railgun said, it is probably not going to last long BUT it could be that it is doing too much and is running really slow because of that. In games that sometimes happens to my HDD.

While possible, I am 99% sure that is definitely not the case. If your OS is running off the hard drive, sitting at 100% usage for extended periods of time even when it isn't doing much is completely normal.

That being said, it wouldn't hurt to run SMART diagnostics on the drive and see what that says.

This is not normal. It can get to 100% usage at times but if it's ever sitting at anywhere above I'd guess 40% at idle, something is wrong.

I get 10+ computers a day that sit at 100% disk usage and have absolutely no problems. It's normal. ESPECIALLY for slower 5400RPM drives or where a lot of small I/O operations are happening.

Granted it should not be 100% of the time, which is why he should check the SMART status or RMA if that really makes him feel better, but I doubt the drive has a problem.
