Network access via internet

How is everyone setting up their home network to be accessed via the internet securely? I have 4 computers and 1 NAS and would like to access from the net securely is dynDNS what I need? I've tried to setup openVPN though my NAS but there's just to many hoops to jump through there has to be an easier way? OS is both windows 10 and mac OS the NAS box is running unRAID I already have an ipvanish account if that plays into it at all

You could use a remote access tool like Teamviewer if you just want to be able to see the files from outside of your network. If you want to be able to connect in and act like you're on your LAN, then you need to set up and VPN.

What you seem to want is a VPN service. There are plenty of options.

Yeah thats what I think as well was hoping I could hear from someone who has succeeded in doing this and what VPN service they are using it has been very frustrating I have been trying to setup a VPN docker in unRAID and keep hitting snags of one type or another and really i would like to access my entire network not just the NAS

I actually used a Raspberry PI to access my home network, I followed a tutorial on youtube to set up PiVPN.

So it seems I need a dd-wrt compatible router to put in front of my isp provided equipment in order to setup a safe and secure vpn to access my network from the net, I already have an ipvanish account is that all that is needed? Will be heading to micro center this Saturday any recommendations?

I dont have a recommendation, but DDWRT's website has a database of routers that will work. Make sure you check that database before you buy. ALSO be very sure you READ the peacock thread over at the DDWRT forums. It gives specific instructions on installation of DDWRT. You might also want to check the Wiki out of configuration instructions.
