Is a good idea to go for a I5 8400 with a Z370?

I've read that you can do some kind of "OC" (putting all cores at 4.0 GHz).

Wait for H370 or buy Z370?

The most cheapest option for the time is MSI Z370A - Pro.

The 4GHz figure you're referencing is the "All Core Turbo" (or MCE) for the i5-8400. Basically, it's an auto OC'ing feature where the motherboard pumps up the voltage to get all cores up to the single-core turbo frequency... and in the process increases your power consumption and thermals. I think it only applies to Z370 motherboards.

The best thing you can do is to get the i5-8400 with a Z370 motherboard and pair it with fast memory. Better than overclocking the actual chip.

Good choices, but again I always suggest an ASUS TUF series board because they're built to last.

What about ASUS PRIME Z370-P?

It's 30 dollars cheaper, is it good?

Asus TUF Z370 PLUS GAMING.

I dont really know the price but the difference is around 30 bucks... so is it worth it to pay for it?

Okay, will take it into account althoug I will not be able to "enjoy" those extra years beacuse where I live I don't have an official ASUS store.

You don't need an ASUS store, any and all RMA's (manufacturer returns) can be done through their website, super simple. I've personally dont dozens already since I work for the returns department of a local computer business.

https://www.asus.com/us/support/CallUs/

All you have to do (in the case of a return) is pay the 10-20$ shipping and they send you back a brand new or refurbished board. Honestly $30 for some peace of mind, some added features and better capacitors and overall quality isn't such a bad idea in my mind.

Didn't know about that!

Thank you

Really? You prefer Gygabyte Z370 HD3 over both ASUS TUF?

Or you recommend other (MSI/ASROCK...)?

They're entry level boards so they either have a lacklustre VRM configuration or a so-so heatsink. But like I said, it should be fine for a i5-8400. It's not as if you're getting a i7-8700K with the intention of overclocking it to 5GHz.

Nah, that's a huge generalisation. Buy by the product, not by the brand.

I'd say that if you can find the ASRock Extreme4 for around the same price, that'd be your best bet.

It has a lot of "premium features" for the same price of the low-end of the other brands.

It's a solid motherboard. If I'm not mistaken, it's a significant upgrade from the Z270 variant and is comparable to the beloved Taichi.
