PC Freezing While Downloading

While downloading large games on steam (in this case Shadow of War) my PC freezes if I don't touch my computer for a while. Everything is fine if I continue using it but once I step away and come back in a few hours, my computer has frozen. Any idea what could be causing this and/or how to fix it? Thanks!

freezes? as in nothing works you have to push the reset button? or steam just stops responding?

Yes reset. Sometimes I can't even do that and have to force shut down

ok so what you want to do is look in your event viewer just after it does this and you've booted your pc up again and look for errors and it should give you a good idea whats doing it. 

 

For example here is a screen shot of a crash i had in fallout 4, it sounds like a system crash so it may be classed as a critical error not just an error

Is this only with Steam games? Or do other large files cause same?
