Hey, guys, I recently got a used 840 SSD from Samsung with 3.2TB written to it (according to SSD Magician, from Samsung), although, it still says it's OK and this SSD is a 250GB and is just slightly faster than my OCZ TL100 120GB SSD from Toshiba which I'm not sure how old it is but I'm pretty sure it's not a year old, and, according to OCZ SSD Utility, it's still at 89% of its life. My question is, should the 840 with 3.2TB written in total be a nono for a replacement for my TL100? Also, Samsung has this software called Samsung Data Migration, which pretty much clones the SSD. If I do it, will it work fine for a boot drive, or do I need to reinstall windows?

Many thanks, Bruno.

Here's the S.M.A.R.T. info for both drives:

Samsungs cloning software works fine for boot drives, you won't have to reinstall windows. It sometimes messes up the 400mb system-partition, which then causes errors when trying to install one of the larger windows-10-upgrades. That can be fixed later on though, so don't worry and just keep it in mind ;)

And 3.2TB are ok, I would still use it. You should Backup your Drives anyway, since bad things can happen.

Thanks for your reply, my windows installation doesn't have anything that important, and the stuff that is indeed important is on my hard drive as well. I was just trying to avoid reinstalling windows as I have some games that I would need to download again, and my internet speed here is quite slow. Thanks mate ;)

I think the 840 is better. The TL100 is basically a dram-less TR100 with 15nm TLC so it's gonna fall below the TR100 and looking at some benchmarks on Anandtech it looks like the TR100 is worse than the SSD 840.

One thing though, just make sure to update your ssd to the latest firmware if you use the 840. The 840 was notorious for voltage drift that would dramatically lower performance after a month or two. Samsung later fixed this with an updated firmware that would refresh the nand flash cells every month or two.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Thanks for the info, mate, I'll make sure it's updated :)
