Best GPU?

Go to solution Solved by Cyracus,

prebuilt pcs also tend to have pretty inadequate PSUs for a decent gpu, you're really better off building a new computer...

Hey guys! I am fairly new to the PC gaming community, (four months) and am trying to make one of my family's computers into a gaming one. Most of them are laptops, but I do have an old HP Compaq 6005 Pro sitting around, with all functioning parts. What would be the best low profile, 100-150$ graphics card that i could put in, or would it make sense to just start from scratch with a new PC? Sorry if this is an obvious question.

You'd be a lot better off saving your money and starting from scratch, even if it's just a simple G4560 or Ryzen 3 build.

Otherwise if you're set on this road you can usually pick up low profile 1050s now for a decent price, that would be as high as I would go with that particular prebuilt, and even then I'm more than positive it'll be held back by your CPU.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

I'm pretty much joining the trend here... but yeah as said before pre-built systems tend to be built for purpose and not expansion and it's very rare you'll get one unless you chose the parts yourself that you can expand on safely, it'd be safer and probably more beneficial for you to just save up the cash and start a custom build for yourself, while i know from personal experience selecting parts is not easy you'll find that you can buy it for future proof building and have something with expand-ability and in your case with a lot better performance, as even on a low budget there are some decent hardware out there for good prices that could fit newer hardware once the money comes into your pocket.
