Hello,

I'm deciding to install a 5.1 surround sound system in my house for 6OO euros (100 for the amp and 500 for the refurbished 5.1 setup)

I think I managed to do that, but before I buy this, I would like your guys opinion because I'm a big noob when it comes to this.

I've attached a visual representation of the potential setup.

Is it good and what should I change if it isn't ?

Also, I have another question:

On the back of the amp, you can see 2 different connectors for the front, back and center speakers. Does this matter, is it just a different mechanism?

The website states that there are 2 screw clamps for the front speakers and 3 stereo-clamps for the other speakers. What does this mean?

I'm very sorry for the big amount of questions and for being such a noob.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you seriously going to spend 500 euros on those little speakers? That set sells for $149-$200 USD.

Here are the cheapest prices for these speakers.

And here are the specs for the sattelite speakers:

  • Midrange transducers: Dual 3" (75mm) honeycomb at-diaphragm drivers, video-shielded

  • High-frequency transducer: 1" (25mm) CMMD Lite dome, video-shielded

  • Suggested ampli er power range: 20W – 150W

  • Nominal impedance: 8 ohms

  • Sensitivity (2.83V/1m): 83dB

  • Enclosure type: Sealed

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 11-25/32" x 4-11/32" x 3-15/32" (299mm x 110mm x 88mm) each, including stands

I will take a look.

It's really hard to compare these speakers just by looking at them on paper, especially if I'm not realmy an 'audiophile'.

I can understand that. Try looking for speakers with some reasonable substance to them. Small little things usually sound tinny and lead to listener's fatigue very quickly. Look for speakers with minimum 4 inch woofers for the fronts and center. Frankly I wouldn't focus on the rear speakers at this time with your current budget. Get a decent receiver/amp and a few decent speakers for your left and right mains. Then slowly add a matching center, and then add the rears.

Because of the tight budget, I think I'm going to change my amp to a Sony STR-DH130. (139 euros)

I have also decided to keep the hkts 65 surround system because I can't really find anything better for the price.

That amplifier is just stereo thus the rear surround speakers and center are useless for you.

Which makes the set even pricier.

This amp doesn't even come with HDMI, and as posted by @.spider. it's not a surround sound receiver.

Look at Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Pioneer. Shoot even look used. You can find great deals used on this equipment.

But make sure it has HDMI. This is the only standard supported by modern discs and all streaming services.

Try to avoid Sony unless you have absolutely no other options.
