I saw it this past Thursday and I'm seeing it again tonight. I was pretty pleasantly surprised.

There was a lot that could have gone wrong with making a sequel 35 years after the original, but they managed to pull it off perfectly.

thinking of rewatching as well.

it turned out great. the more modern cinematography does set it apart from the first film, but in terms of atmosphere it's dead-on. personally i find they complement each other

I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the pacing of Blade Runner 2049 more than the original. It comes off more as an actual action movie more than an effect showcase.

But what I really loved about the movie was that it actually had quiet parts. It's surprisingly rare to see a modern movie that isn't constantly blasting sound at you.

My only real complaint about the movie is that they casted Carla Jurl to play Dr. Ana Stelline.

Not that she doesn't do a great job. She's a great actress, but her previous work makes it somewhat hard to focus on her as a character.

i also agree on the pacing. the quiet bits are some of the best segments of the film. when action does happen, it comes in pretty abruptly. and continues in a manner that's pretty unlike any other action flick. well, there is one action scene that probably felt the most 'mainstream action' but still turned out great

i saw the film in IMAX, and wow, hearing the score being played while the camera pans over LA is just otherwordly. personally every other time i found IMAX to be a little too overwhelming in the sounds, but that particular usage hit me good

didn't know about that. no wonder i felt some weird tension with her. her role as a memory fabricator seems more pungent, then

Unfortunately. the IMAX where I live is extremely expensive.

I did see the movie in a movie theater with Dolby Atmos and the like, but it's still not on par with an IMAX theater.

Another thing I loved about the movie was the use of CGI in contrast with practical effects.

Was incredibly underwhelmed. Watched it last night, ready yourselves for the full story.

Haven't watched the previous blade runner, was in the Library when my mate messaged me to come see it, cost £4.30 on the bus then £8.95 for the ticket and £3 for some sugary ice drink. Not worth, wish I'd seen IT instead or something of that order.

So I don't remember things at the best of times so the text at the start was instantly forgotten, all I gathered was it was something similar to the Mitchell and Webb sketches featuring "the event", featuring some dystopian future following an event. It got pretty difficult to follow but I got the gist, I wasn't especially impressed by any of the acting, the strange sex scene or the last few scenes (which were idiotic). I wasn't going to leave having paid so much money for the film so I sat through all the boring, endless scenes, such as the one with the holographic naked woman; I swear most of these type of scenes were just to pad it out as they added nothing to the film. I feel like more could have been done with some characters too, such as that of the separatist clone cult or even the real women that slept with the main dude. None of the characters were especially relatable to me at all really.

So I left, underwhelmed. Even my mate who thought it was good said he definitely wouldn't see it again. I'd say swerve then watch it when it comes out on Netflix in 2 years.

I don't think you're missing that much to be honest mate.

  • 3 weeks later...

This film is STUNNING, it just blew me away. The cinematography is literally awesome (used correctly, not like awesome when describing a hotdog)
I spent days just thinking about it and the impact it made on me.
Joi made a big impact on me and Luv was a perfectly scary villain.
The acting was great all round but I thought Jared leto's character could have been used a bit more or made to be more menacing.

A very worthy sequel and that is saying  a lot seeing as the original Blade Runner is my favourite film of all time.
