My Flash drive (Sandisk Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C) copies files at the rate of 90MB/s but I noticed overtime it goes down to around 20MB/s. Is this because of thermal throttling? I can feel that the flash drive is pretty hot after using.

If it is thermal throttling, does this mean that if I purchase a physically larger flash drive it would transfer better because it has more room to distribute and dissipate heat?

Thanks for answering.

do you copy from HDD to the flash drive?

Yes.

its because some files are larger then other and with the standard cluster size some files might go slower than others

But all of them are anime that are basically of same composition. Why does the first few episodes transfer at 90MB/s while after some time the other episodes transfers only at 20MB/s. Since it occurs after some time & the flash drive itself is pretty hot, I assumed it's thermal throttling.

You cannot transfer faster than whats your HDD read speed, the fast speed you see is probably from what you have cached in RAM before you started to copy the files.

Try to copy the file that is on USB on the same USB (make a duplicate) and see how fast it goes.

nah its because files are made up with many clusters n stuff , if u really believe its coz of temps just get a closed bag with ice inside and put it around the usb sticki xD lol

if the flash drive has cache then its just filled, similar to like nvme storage, its fast until the cache fills

I see, that could be a valid explanation. Thank you for responding. I'll google more about it.
