Why do different BIOS version change CPU temps?

I'm hoping someone with a bit of computer engineering knowledge can answer this question. I upgraded my Maximus IX Hero last month to the newest BIOS version, re-entered my overclock and found my 7700k ran about 5c -8c hotter at idle than on the previous BIOS. I've now downgraded back to the older version and my CPU is running cooler again. What is it about a motherboard BIOS that can make the exact same CPU hotten even with the same clocks and voltages entered?

I cannot answer your question but I have similar experience on AMD FX platform. The temps show about 3-4 degrees C hotter in the bios. When I land on desktop and launch HW monitor, it shoots down few degrees.
