Hi everyone, lately i've switced from a 4K 60hz monitor to a 2k 165hz one and i've noticed that the fps i get in games barely changed at all, in fact i've started to think that my GPU might be underperforming (or the other option is the CPU or something else bottlenecking it), so i looked up on google people's scores on Unigine heaven benchmark and i think mines are pretty low compared to those i've found, mines are in the range of 2700 points, and other people even get to the 3k points, granted i don't know if they're overclocked i wanted to know if there's a way to test if a particular piece is underperforming, or if something is causing some bottleneck (i'm pretty sure that my 4770K at 4.0Ghz is a small bottleneck), i've also been getting higher temperatures than usual playing Divinity Original Sin 2, like my CPU gets to almost 70C while my GPU runs lower at like 65C

So yeah idk, i think i'm gonna get a new CPU and MB if Intel decides to drop something interesting, but i don't know if my GPU is acting up as well

GPU is a GTX1080 Strix, the CPU is water cooled by one of those double radiator all in one from corsair, i dont remember the name, PSU is 750Watt

2700 and 3000 are almost within margin of error. They're practically no difference.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

4770k's are shit for overclocking ... ive spent 3 weeks to get mine to 4.2 Ghz back in the day

im not that much into overclocking, but i did it once and i got it to 4,5Ghz stable, then reverted it to 4.0 because i didn't really need the OC, i mgiht try to bring it up again to squeeze the last bit of juice it has i guess

then you got lucky, i had a 3770k at 5Ghz before that, but motherboard died and couldnt get a new z77 board that could hit that OC

Let's agree to disagree

i guess i did, but as i said temperatures have been pretty high lately and idk what caused it, this week i'll be cleaning up fans and replacing the thermal paste, hopefully i'll get lower temps, idk if that explains the lower fps that it seems i've been getting compared to other 1080s

This is one of the runs i've done, idk if running it on 1080p on a 1440p monitor can explain a 20fps difference between me and this other guy with a 3770K, or if maybe his stuff is OCd and it doesn't show

Could you try downloading MSI afterburner and take some logs with it while running heaven(you can enable logging in the afterburner settings) and then send them to us? That would be helpful, thanks.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

aright i did it, here's the file, this time the benchmark went better though which is weird, because i tried to benchmark while overclocking the gpu but it never really add many more fps, so i reverted it back and left only the power target at 120% with 93C as target temperature, and i got like 115 average fps and 2,8k points, anyways here's the fileHardwareMonitoring.hml

you say your running your cpu at 4ghz yet heaven showed as 3.5ghz an you get a cpuz maybe? also what are your clocks on the 1080 and temps if you are running 1500-1600 compared to 1800-1900 that will cause it or if your gpu is throttling somehow.

1.140 VCore, as i said i can get it to 4,5/4,6 but temps are in the high when i play already with 4,0, i need to order some new paste and i'll try changing it these days

Buy a vice or a delid tool and some nail Polish and liquid metal. Then run 4.5ghz. Then your 1080 will stop being a 1060 and become a 1070ti.
