Hey, I’m planning on switching to a gaming pc in the next couple of months but I don’t know whether to wait and get a better pc or not.

I have made a list on amazon with what I’m wanting in my rig, as follows

i5 6600k

Gigabyte GTX 1060 3gb

asus z170 gaming mobo

8gb hyper x ram

1tb hdd

256gb ssd

650w Corsair 80+ bronze

nzxt s340

Corsair h60 water cooling

RGB strip w/ remote

wifi dongle

periphirels

The total cost without peripherals is £817

Is there any way I can reduce cost on the pc as I’m kinda on a budget and this would be my first pc. I’m a complete noob with this and don’t know if I need anything else.

I’d be running 1 monitor and my preferred budget is under £800.

Plz help cheers?

It's not great. You could do better and probably save some money.

You said you'll be building in a couple months though so come back when you have the money and are ready to buy parts to build the system. New products will have released by then and prices might change.

Would you imagine the CPU being a bottleneck in that kind of setup? I am running a Ryzen 5 1600 and its load while gaming 1080p 60fps never hit anything significant even with CPU heavy games like Cities Skylines, Just Cause 3, GTA V and even on stock cooler it would only get to about 60-65 degrees. I would imagine a 3GB 1060 to be more of a bottleneck if OP wanted to game 1080p on higher details.

Have you got any specific models of any of the ryzen chips that you could recommend? Thanks

The 6600K is last gens I5. It'll match the R5 in alot of games, I advise a Ryzen 5 1600 and  a B350 motherboard; that way you'll get a 6 core overclockable processor and maybe save some money.

The H60 is kind of  "meh". 120/140MM AIO's are kind of garbage and not really worth it, i'd see if you can either A) get an aircooler like the Hyper 212 EVO and use the money to upgrade the GPU, or  B) use the saved money from Ryzen to get a 240mm AIO like the H100I V2.

A bronze 650W PSU is kind of a weird choice for this build, too. Your better off getting a 500W Gold-rated PSU, EVGA Supernovas and Corsair RMX series are great choices.

Also, look into aesthetics some more, you'll regret buying this case/motherboard/gpu combo. If possible, I like to go for matching brands because then you can sync RGB (EG get an Asus b350 motherboard and an Asus GPU so you can sync the lighting with ASUS software). You could also get Asus-supported RGB fans instead of an LED strip too, I find they light up the PC much more evenly.

Main Rig

CPU: Ryzen 2700X
Cooler: Corsair H150i PRO RGB 360mm Liquid Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VII Hero
RAM: 16GB (2x8) Trident Z RGB 3200MHZ
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NVME SSD 1TB, Intel 1TB NVME

Graphics Card: Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080Ti OC

Case: Phanteks Evolv X
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Platinum-Rated

Radiator Fans: 3x Corsair ML120
Case Fans: 4x be quiet! Silent Wings 3

Thanks for the tip, but I plan on upgrading things in the future, would 500w be enough to support an upgraded gpu per say if I got one?

Also, sorry about this, is there any GPUS around the same price as a GTX 1060 3gb that you think could perform better and not be bottlenecked at all?

It really depends what GPU you upgrade into. If 1 year from now you decide to upgrade to NVdia's top GPU, no, 500-550W likely won't be enough. Will it be enough for a mid-tier GPU update? I'd think so.If you want to be safe, get a 650W, but I'd much rather a 550W Gold-rated PSU than A 650w bronze rated one, it's cleaner, more stable power. Don't get me wrong, a bronze PSU will do the trick just fine and you can get some good ones, but my preferred method of building is to have a very equal, balanced build.

As for upgrading, remember that AMD has promised the AM4 motherboards will stay compatible with new ryzen chips for the next 2 generations, and DDR5 will only be available in 2020, with an AMD board you'll have upgrade paths for the next 2-3 years, whereas Intel your likely to have no upgrade path a year from now.

If you're running a 1060, I'm guessing you want to play 1080p 60fps and for that a 1060 is a sweet spot. I would get a 6GB version though. Costs a little more, but while playing GTA V my memory usage would be constantly over 2.5-3GB so that would probably be a bottleneck in your system. With a 6GB version you should be good for quite some time.

Not really, No. The 1060 3GB is in a weird spot at the minute, miners don't want it so the price isn't that inflated, but the usual competition (RX 580 4GB) is wanted by miners so it's quite inflated.

My advice would to see if you could get a 1060 6GB, unless your planning to upgrade anytime in the next year. 3GB won't cut it for alot of games if your planning to run it in max graphics, big titles are take upwards of 4GB atm. A 6GB 1060 not only has double the VRAM but I believe it also has a few more CUDA cores; it's about $60 more expensive where I am.

Yup, and it's overclocked a little bit, can't say how much right now, but it's probably like 3.8 GHz and stock cooler is doing just fine with it.

1280 CUDA on 6GB and 1152 on 3GB version to be precise :D

Would an rx 570 8gb be an ok substitute?

That’s the thing, if it were only 60 higher where I am I’d probs go straight for it but there about a £100-150 difference, making it difficult to make plans whether to get a slightly worse gpu (i.e GTX 1060 3gb) or just keep saving until the cryptomining bubble pops. I totally get where you’re coming from though

I was waiting for a month looking at prices of multiple stores every 2-3 hours until I found a window when prices went down. After a day they were back up again, but I got my card.

How much would you save if you switched to a Ryzen 5 1600 and didn't get a cooler?

And Ryzen is cheaper than that i5 and mobo would probably also be a bit cheaper. Try looking at ASRock AB350M Pro 4. It's a fairly good microATX board. It ticks most of the boxes and is cheaper than what you chose. I honestly don't see a use for an ATX board these days. If you switched to MicroATX, the case would probably also be a bit cheaper and you would loose virtually no functionality.

I’d save about £35 I I spent a little extra getting the ryzen chip and stock cpu cooler
