External HDD

I recently used an external HDD to install windows 10 on my new computer. I downloaded windows onto the HDD from a laptop and then plugged it into my PC which automatically downloaded windows 10 for me. Now the weird thing is that all the files I already had backed up on the HDD seem to be inaccesable, even weirder is that the HDD has 320 GB of storage but when plugged in after this windows install, it only shows 32 GB of total space. It seems to me that it has somehow formatted itself and that i should still be able to somehow access the old files on the HDD. Does anyone know if this is the case and if so, how to access them? Open up Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage ->  Disk Management. Post a screen shot of what that shows.

Assuming Disk 3 is the external HDD, it looks like whatever you did to it formatted the entire drive.

 

I haven't dabbled in data recovery on this level, but the first Google hit I looked up seems promising: https://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/recover-formatted-partition.htm

Disk 3 is indeed the external HDD, thank you, i will look into this when I have a bit more time on my hands. Thanks
