Upgrading a CPU, Difficult?

Go to solution Solved by Bluejay0,

Why did you switch your 6300? You should have overclocked it if you needed a performance boost... or invested in an HDD and SSD

Just turn everything off and switch the CPU.

So i have just purchased an AMD Fx-8350 and I was wondering if all i have to do is take out my old CPU and put in the new one and bam I'm done or is there something else I have to do? Like are the any drivers that need to be installed, currently i have the latest bios and the latest chipset, USB 3.0, LAN, ect drivers installed. I have also recently updated to windows 8.1 from windows 7 OEM, will i have have to re-install? if so i had upgraded through the windows upgrade assistant which means i don't have a physical copy of Windows 8.1 so how would i do the re-install, can i even re-install? Basically all I'm asking is can i just put the new cpu in, install the the cpu cooler and boot up as normal or are there other steps i will have to take to get to normal? Thanks and sorry if these are newb questions. oh and side question will i need a bigger psu?

As long as the new CPU is compatible with the socket, it's as simple as that.

Agreed, though for f**ksake don't bend any pins lol

Uh because honestly I'm terrified I'll screw something up if i try and over clock, also all the new games are being made for the next gen consoles which have 8 core processors so i don't know, i was thinking i would benefit from it or something. I also ordered an ssd and another hard dive with the cpu so I'm all good.

Relax dude, it's a good upgrade and a good cpu. Just make sure the sockets are the same, don't force anything. If they aren't, you'll need a new motherboard. Just pay attention to the orientation, usually there's an indicator ( arrow on chip ) set and fasten it and you're good to go. You can wiggle a little to make sure the pins have lined up. Great choice going with an SSD btw!
