I'm thinking of switching to Ryzen since I'm doing game streaming now (so need more cores) and my 7700k's poor quality TIM is not a fan of the 35c spring weather we are having.

Question A: Is AMD intending for the X370 and AM4 platform going to stick around for years like AM3 boards or are they going to release a new chipset with every generation CPU and a new socket every couple of gens like Intel?

Question B: Has AMD improved their memory compatibility much since launch? I'd like to use the same 3400 8gb x 4 set I have now, though I'm ok if I need to drop it down to 3200 or something like that.

Only way I'll consider a 8700k for this upgrade is if Intel get on top of their thermals.

I spend too much on my PC. Then I spend even more on my Sim Rig. Damn, this stuff's expensive.

AMD has officially said they're gonna support socket AM4 at least until 2020

There's no reason why future AM4 processors would not work on current chipsets and AMD doesn't have a history of fucking with you, like Intel does.

The memory compatibility has improved a lot since launch through bios updates  and AGESA microcode in the cpu (through bios updates). You should be fine with your memory, it should run at 2933+

You don't necessarily need x370, there are decent B350 based motherboards. Between x370 and b350, you just lose a couple usb 3 ports and the ability to run 2 cards in SLI (no splitting of pci-e x16 into 2 x8)

Thanks for that. I'll look further into selling my Intel stuff and getting Ryzen in that case.

Oh and I know I don't need a X370 board but I have a lot of USB devices so I'm probably going to buy a Crosshair VI Hero which is similar to my current Maximus IX Hero because of how many USB ports it has. Asus really cram a lot of USB ports onto those boards.

Yeah crosshair is nice

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM
