Upgrading to a SSD

vinnyerrero

In April I build a PC without a SSD and a 2TB HDD because of short money.
Now I earned some cash and bought a 240GB SSD. Do I need to manually install Windows and all files again to the SSD or there is an automatic way to do it?
I use around 900GB of space but the majority of files(I think over 750GB) is games
Thanks

You should reinstall every thing, back up files and documents but all software should be reinstalled including the OS on the SSD this time.

this will confuse steam though. it will need to re-find all the game files.

maybe backup only the steamapps/common folder (where all games are stored), reinstall steam completely (with a new desination folder), and then copy over the backup into steamapps/common. this should be a lot better than just pointing steam at the old directory.

no, u can set steam to a custom folder

In the latest Steam versions, just click Steam -> Settings -> Downlaods -> Steam Library Folders -> Make/Add the relative folders, RIGHT click on the folder you want to make default and click "Make Default Folder."
