You could trim it flush using a sharp pair of scissors if it's sticking out a lot. It's not really supposed to poke out.
It's supposed to be there though. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

just take a black marker and color the visible portion so it looks better

Yes I have icx version and I'm pretty sure it's within safe temps as I'm using this for about 3 weeks now no problems. But I want to know what I can use to check the temps, any suggestions?
