I want some opinions on what card would work best on these specs:

AMD FX-4100 3.6 ghz 4 core

Kingston HyperX blu 4GB x 2 1600 mhz RAM

Gygabyte GA-970A-D3 ATX motherboard

600W power supply

WD caviar blue 500 gig (yes I know I should have gotten the 1TB)

Windows 7

Atec 300 case (full tower, lots of room)

Budget would be somewhere around 300$ but if I can pay less while still getting a good deal, that's welcome too.

And I'm likely playing games like BF4, Assassin's Creed IV, most of the more "next-gen" games.

7950 at the most. 770 and 280X might bottleneck, and a 290 would. I would either go with a 7950 or any other cheap card you can find (right now that is 7870 and 7850).

My Build Log on PCPartPicker FX-6300, ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3, MSI 7870 GHz Edition, Corsair Vengeance LP 1x8GB, 1TB WD Blue, Fractal Core 1000 USB 3.0, Corsair CX600, and my most recent addition that I've had forever and isnt new is a 80GB WD800 for Linux, Lenovo ThinkPad X131e, ASUS Transformer TF300T, Galaxy Note 3 Sister dropped it in a puddle I now have to use a Samsung Brightside, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250ohm version, Blue Yeti  #TheRealKEH-JEFF | "Sometimes, if were lucky, in Australia, a family has 2 kangaroos to pick up the kids with" - marto | Your entry here | Remember kids; just because Linus has a video on it, doesn't mean that its the best choice | ts3.wferr.com the best TeamSpeak Abide by the CoC | Looking for build help? I'd go with like a 670 or any equivalent card from the newer models from AMD and Nvidia.

$300? 7870/R9-270 (whichever is cheaper), and a 6300.

This is definitely the best advice, you need a CPU upgrade and a GPU upgrade, sell your FX 4100 and get an FX 6300, with the remaining money get either an HD 7870 or an R9 270.

Probably should have got the 6300 in the first place, how much would you say I could sell my 4100 for? It's about a year old.

With AMD Mantle coming you might have better luck with AMD cards since your processor is kinda low end. Mantle will almost remove you CPU bottleneck so i'd say R9 280x. You should be able to find one on sale for around $300 or just pony up the extra $30.
