Ryzen 5 1600 OC help

Go to solution Solved by just_dave,

Yeah dont worry.

What is the rest of your specs

I've never overclocked before so this is my first and just want to know if this is supposed to be doing that. I'm doing some prime95 stress test for my cpu for about an hour now and I noticed that the cpu core max speed exceeded its overclocked speed, It's overclocked to 3750 Mhz but the Maximum Speed the CPUID HWmonitor is showing 3844Mhz. Is this normal or ? Should I lower the clockspeed? Increase voltage? Really have no idea so any help would be really appreciated.

Isn't XFR on the 1600 higher than the Ryzen 7 line?

Dont overclock on that mobo.

It has no heatsinks and that is bad.

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM

Prime is not the best program to use for Ryzen. Depending on the version, it pushes the CPU harder than anything you'll ever be doing with it.

Overclocking on this board is supported so I don't see an issue with it.

The previous person who said heatsinks are bad on this board is not true, since CPU / TMPIN1 and TMPIN2 are WELL within their safe temperatures. I wouldn't worry and overclock it to 4.0Ghz if possible (depending on the cooler you have), and I think it's an air cooler judging by the temps.

But watch your temps, I see there was 74C on your CPU so I'm not sure if it's fault of the Prime95 or something else. Anything around 70C is fine, anything past it is not really so great.

Also, look up Pstate overclocking since this will help your CPU when it's idle. Usually it stays at your overclocked speed but if you Pstate overclock, it will downclock to 2.2Ghz and fluctuate so temps go down drastically. My 1800X would be around 45-50C on H115i if it's not Pstate overclocked. When Pstate overclocking it fluctuates between 30 and 35.

Don't forget to turn off any background programs as well since some eat resources like e.g. 3DS MAX (3D editing program) and temps rise just because this program service is opened in the background.

i'm personally confused by this. it's never been well explained as to the process. I understand what PStates are but how to overclock them is a bit of a mystery as i've not seen anything in my BIOS for it.

Well, you overclock using Pstates.

This is Pstates stock from my motherboard. If you know the codes you can set each thing here to what you want. Then in the Extreme Tweaker you set an offset to the CPU and you set the memory speeds etc. This allows the CPU to downclock. Some people say it's useless but I like to have my CPU not boost to my OC speeds when at idle.

@TheNaitsyrk

my CPU Temp when idle is  around 21-29 C what kind of benefits would i have if i Pstate OC?

You could brick your board if you do it wrong.

I am kinda impressed by @TheNaitsyrk because he managed a good Pstate OC.

However, you are not sure if such low-end model has VRM temp sensor and the best way to measure mosfet temp is to use IR Thermometer (i use it for surface measurments always).

I have to say, from today´s overclocks, my Strix runs super chilly, but it has massive heatsink and i have a good airflow in my case.

Temp sensors may not be accurate indeed.

It's not dangerous to Pstate overclock. It's ultra easy, you just leave multipliers alone, and instead you just set the desired OC in the Pstate menu. It always works and there are no problems for me at least.
