Ryzen 7 - Weird error

Hiho, 

 

I've been playing some Battlefront (Practice before BFII) and in event viewer I encountered this:

 

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 1

What could it be?

 

Also, my CPU is overclocked to 4.0Ghz using Pstate OC.

 

Lastly, Battlefront started crashing today. Crashing as it, my screen would go blank monitor would not detect anything and PC would sit like this until I restart physically. CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn't work at that point.

 

I enabled the overclock today. Temps of the CPU are more than fine at average 53-55C when gaming.

GPU is water cooled, and the temperature is always 43-45C (God bless the Noctua 3000 Industrial fan lol)

 

Any idea what it could be? Event viewer doesn't show anything display related and it doesn't show anything CPU related at the time of the screen going blank. I just get the "Reported by component: Processor Core" 2x (2 lines in event viewer) and that's it. And according to event viewer it's usually 20-30 minutes before the screen goes black, and GPU doesn't respond. Any ideas?

 

PS. I just updated my GPU drivers, since I haven't before but I'm not sure if that's it. I already did the full window correction code thing in Origin.

Stable for the past 4 months, works in every game. No crashes whatsoever.

But it's crashing now, right?

Try turning it off and see if the problem happens again.

Already have, and yes it is. After 30 min of gameplay.

 

Also, after a failed overclock I get a message ALWAYS in event viewer and I'm not getting ANYTHING now.

 

EDIT: Literally changed to windowed in game and same problem occurred. Blanks screens with no sound.

Still oc unstable is your best bet does not matter that it was presumed stable for a period of time windows and driver updates or any number of minor or major changes can make what was a stable run now not so much, roll it back some until stable and go through your overclock procedures again.

^ This is my problem, not the OC.

 

I'm not sure what happened but my FPS just went from 150 to about 44. I restarted all the settings and FPS is back to normal also game no longer crashes? Weird. Problem seems to be solved. Been playing the game for 2h now with no crashes.

The P-State overclocks are bit dangerous and because they are in early states, they can sometimes brick the mobo

I agree but it fixed itself now so no more problem I guess

I am impressed that his 1800x can run 4ghz with a sub 1.4v requirement.

 

With that said, that "fix" is a little weird to me.

 

Is Battlefront trying to call for more CPU resources and he is simply locking it to 4?

 

I wonder if the game was hammering all cores and that made everything unstable.

 

I have a feeling this may occur in other situations as well.

 

Of course, I will always point out that anything above 1.35v isn't recommended for longevity, regardless of cooling, but that's okay.

Anything above 1.425V is considered bad for longevity as outlined by AMD themselves in Linus video. Therefore, my overclock is more than okay.

It was somewhat related to the settings I used in the game. All other games work just fine, it was just this one.

At full 100% load at 4.0Ghz I'm only getting 61C on my CPU which is pretty damn good. Gaming wise it only reaches 51C max. 

 

Pstate is not dangerous, it actually allows my CPU to downclock unlike manual overclocking where I just input voltage etc.

It goes from 4Ghz to just 2.2Ghz at idle (I'm on an older BIOS) and CPU temp drops to 30-35c at idle even though this room is a furnace at the moment at 28C.

At normal vcore overclock, without offset like I do now, the temps would stay at 50C constantly since it's always clocking itself at 4.0Ghz.

 

Plus, it wasn't a CPU issue, Battlefront is bugged to hell it seems.

I should do some additional research, since I can run 4ghz at 1.425 stable on my 1700

Silicon lottery my friend. I had 2x 1800X's and only this one can do 4.0Ghz. Previous ones could only do 3.9Ghz with lots of voltage.

It just runs hot at 1.4V constantly pumped into CPU you know? Pstates eliminate that and now the voltage goes down at idle which is nice.

 

Also, to answer your previous question. It seems that Battlefront is using ALL the CPU cores and I seen people do hacks such as cfg files where they only force the game to use 4. CPU usage in Battlefront is maxing out at 25% or less I believe? (I removed my 3DS MAX idle CPU processes that take about 10% of CPU power 24.7) Not sure how it's done and whether it's necessary though.

Yeah with my cooler it's not bad.

 

Only when benchmarking and doing stability tests did I see the chip hit 65C-70C at 4ghz at that voltage, so I am not concerned with temps.

 

My current OC barely gets my chip to 55C when gaming. It gets warmer when streaming with OBS AND gaming, but that's all ice cold to me considering my fans run on a silent curve.

I have a touchscreen fan controller in front of my case which is nice since I get to choose if I want the PC to get warmer but quieter or colder but louder. I wear headphones 7.1 all the time so I just blast all the fans at 100%, hence why my GPU always stays at 43C when gaming (which is super cool).

 

(I was looking for pictures of Pstate overclocking that I did but couldn't find them, I was thinking they'd be of use to you)
