PSA: Elgato HD 60 Pro and Ryzen

Jon Jon

As an FYI for everyone on the Ryzen platform, Elgato's HD 60 Pro will not work out of the box, unless you have purchased the latest revision.

I just went back and forth for a while with support, as I migrated it over from my Ivy Bridge build, to my new Ryzen build.

The new Ryzen build could not detect the card.

As per support, they had to release a new firmware specifically for it to work with Ryzen.

However, you cannot even upgrade to said firmware if you were to install it in a working machine.

They had me send it in for RMA and they are sending me a Ryzen Ready card.

I hope this helps anyone having trouble with the same scenario.

It's specific to pro.

For whatever reason, it has trouble communicating with the chipset.

It may have to do with how the X370 chipset manages the PCI-E lanes and how the pro negotiates for resources.

To quote the support engineer,

"I see that you are using an AMD Ryzen chipset in your PC. We have identified an issue that is causing this particular chipset to have difficulty detecting the Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro."

This wouldn't impact the USB versions as they are just using the USB controller following USB standard.

Read through the entire thread.

You will have to contact Elgato support and they will send you another card with the correct firmware.

Either that or return it for something else :)

Yes I read it already and did contact them :) It was just to leave a trace and to say that with the current one selling, it's not working out of the box.

I do not know, sadly.

You'd have to contact their support. They are very helpful for sure.

Before the bios update I would get a "not enough resources available" within the device manager.

Just a quick update on this issue. I was in the same boat as this the original maker of this thread but after reading and compiling that with other information I found this is bios chipset issue. I then decided to go to the maker of the motherboard's website and see if the updated firmware was available, and it was. They want you to be VERY cautious when updating the firmware because like with all firmware if you do it wrong or have hardware that is incompatible with the latest version it could result in a catastrophic failure.

With that warning our of the way if you are not familiar with firmware and BIOS updating call the maker of the motherboard and send the motherboard in to have them complete this task.

If you are an experienced tech this should be something you should be able to complete with ease. I updated the BIOS to the latest version and the Elgato HD 60 Pro started working without issue. This is my brothers configuration.

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64bit

Processor: AMD Ryzen 2300X Quad Core

Motherboard: A320M-HDV R4.0

Graphics AMD Radeon RX 560Series

Delgato HD 60 Pro Connected to the PCIE 2.0 port

Hope this helps!!!

This is very interesting.

Great insight! Very strange that this had such weird issues with the first generation of Ryzen chipsets.
