So I recently installed a GTX 1050 TI into my prebuilt "Gaming Pc" from ibuypower. I upgraded from a GT 730. Everything went smoothly and had a huge bump in performance in most of my games. However, on games that use OpenGL, the performance was horrendous. In games like Minecraft and Half-Life I was averaging 35 fps when I averaged at 100 with my GT 730. Both of those games render in OpenGL. Any game that uses DirectX works perfectly fine. I've scoured the internet for weeks on a solution but to no avail. I finally remembered this forum and went here looking for help. I have already tried completely reinstalling the graphics drivers btw.

My processor is a fx-4300 at the stock clock speed

My motherboard is a 760GMA-P34(FX) (MS-7641) mini-atx board from MSI

8 gigs of DDR3 ram (don't know the manufacturer)

Graphics card is the above mentioned GTX 1050 TI

Maybe try to DDU & Reinstall.

If you don't know what this is, DDU stands for Display Driver Uninstaller, and is the ubiquitous way to uninstall GPU drivers. Most GPU problems are fixed with an uninstall and reinstall of their respective drivers.

You can download DDU here: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html , and I’d recommend using the “Clean and Restart” option.

Once this is done, you can download new drivers by clicking on the links below, and selecting your hardware.

Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Sorry if this is too much detail. This is a macro on my keyboard and I’m trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator

An FX-4300 should handle both without mods just fine, Half-Life (2?) especially.

Minecraft values single threaded perf, which the FX-4300 definitely does not have. Though this still could be a GPU issue, so @TheGlitchGamer hit F3 while playing minecraft and post a screenshot.

I know the FX-4300 doesn't, but I can't imagine the FX-4300 being shitty enough that it can't run MC at 60+ FPS when my FX-4100 could do it fine.

What version of minecraft was this? 1.8+ has become more and more CPU hungry (1.12 is the current version).

OK so here's the thing

(yes I am ashamed that I used Minecraft to as an example)

I was able to get over 100 fps easily with the same processor and a GT 730

With my GTX 1050 TI I hit a max of 35

I might try that actually, although the Nvidia driver that was used for my GT 730 works with my GTX 1050 TI (at least GeForce Experience didn't say there was an issue) I'm not ruling that out as a possibility
