So, i have a sapphire rx 480, and when i got it, i decided to overclock the crap out of it. I ended up getting 1410 at 1.275 volts, and after a few months it could only do 1400. i thought hm, okay, maybe i just wasnt thorough enough with my stress tests, but now im certain something is wrong. it can barely do 1350 at 1.275 volts so ive put it back to stock. Im assuming that my overvolt reduced its silicon quality, but im not sure. what do you guys think?

Are you thermal throttling at those points or are you hitting instability issues?

If it's thermal throttling, check the heatsink for dust and possibly consider replacing the thermal compound.

no, 60-70c max

You have to consider the hardware that powers the GPU die. If the GPU's power source is overclocked too much it can become unstable such as the VRMs

hm.... you may be right. it crashes a LOT faster when i have the power consumption maxed in things like kombustor

I don't really believe in this theory mainly because because my old 290x is still capable of of doing 1150mhz@1.25mv according to the buyer. That card is almost 4 years old.

Maybe other component causing it instead of the graphic chip?

Could just be driver updates, sometimes when performance improves through driver updates cards can't handle previous OC levels.

hm... ill try an old one like 17.1.1

do you think itll ever get better?
