First, I found a sheet of unobtrusive, strong, foam-like material in my recycling bin. *check*

Then, I cut it down to size. I made a few two inch-ish squares of the foam. *check*

I grabbed a long nail from a bucket of spare screws and nails. *check*

I stuck the nail through the center of the foam squares, leaving a bit under half of the nail exposed on the other side. *check*

I cut the pieces down into a small rough cylinder shape. *check*

I taped around the foam cylinder to hold it together. *check*

Finally, I pushed the nail end into the thin drywall wall that separates my office from the rest of my dank basement. *check*

And that's my headphone holder mod. I think it worked pretty well. It sags, but not enough to fall off or even be noticeable.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

I bought a utility hook and screwed it to the edge of my work table. The cost was under $2. I wish I had thought of this sooner, but unfortunately it was only done after I got up to answer the phone, got my knee caught on the cord, and destroyed an expensive headset...DOH!

P.S. I admire the solution provided by @YedZed. Anything with duct tape is just ... sexy! :x

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."
