Hello all!

I am working in a networking room for a small business. They have two routers, one that is a standard Comcast router that connects to a netgear that controls the VOIP and LAN. Then they have an Arris router that I have no idea what it does. When I directly connect it to my laptop (Arris) I get no internet even though windows says I have. I have the correct DHCP IP from both. I want to connect both of them so that I don't have to add a second switch. I can also VLAN if needed. The only problem is that without both of them connected the internet or the phones don't work (they both have the 192.168.1.1). If I set the second Arris router to 192.168.2.1 etc. I would have to make sure that the phones and the server has to be on the same subnet (this is if the server actually does the phones). The server is a Mac Mini. This customer only has Mac machines. I do know that the primary Comcast box supplies 300 Mbps. And my client has no idea about the setup of his Server. Meaning that he doesn't know how the VOIP IP's and management is configured. So my current temp setup is two switches. A Dell Powerconnect 2748 that I provided and one of their older ones. The plan was to only use the Dell switch but to get them online and working, the two routers have to be plugged into separate  switches so that the DHCP doesn't topple on top of each other. If I could figure out what IP the Polycon server is and which box the phones work through this would be an easy fix.

Thanks,

Matthew

The Arris is a CM820. I am not working there today and I forogt the second model # ill post a picture if that helps.

That is a cable modem. You'd have to check with Comcast, or their latest bill, to see if they have both modems on their account, or just one.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

That was my next step.

You need to bounce the modem after you connect your laptop to it for you to get internet when directly connected.

This is literally the first time I have seen or heard "bounce" in reference to IT equipment, I had to look it up to see that it means restart/reboot/cycle. I'll admit that I don't have a lot of experience outside of college and the company I've worked at since college. is this a market segment thing? generational?

I hear it all the time with respect to shutting down and bringing back up an interface in my line of work. Not sure how prevalent it is though outside my department.
