make another boot drive for 2nd pc

i recently received the motherboard i ordered online for my i5 3570 and i didn't have any spare hard drives left that i could use for it. then i remembered i have a secondary hdd on my main computer used for just storing my files.. is it possible to install an os to this hard drive without my files being deleted?

yep, just do a backup of the files before pulling it out of the first machine to stick it in the second machine.  Once the drive is moved to the second machine, do a complete windows10 install with the Windows Media Creation Tool.
