generell Overclocking question

3.7ghz is the boost when running on a single core. So yes , you will see a significant boost in multithreaded tasks .  But the stock cooler can even manage a reasonable 3.8-3.9ghz if you're lucky.

Okay, this will probably sound incredibly stupid but I actually didn't find an actual answer on this:

Lets say i overclock a Ryzen 1700. Its base clock is 3 Ghz and it boosts up to 3.7 Ghz. If i overclock it to exactly 3.7 Ghz, is there an actual difference in performance or is this completely useless?

But why is this the case? Is the boost clock in stock configuration not stable? Because I thought the boosting gets disabled as soon as you overclock so the max should be the same 3.7 Ghz. 

 

Edit: Also just looking through the article there is only data on a 4.0 Ghz overclock, which would naturally perform better since it's higher than the max on stock

Well, the boost is always 2core/1core. All cores run on the frequency given as "base".

Need to pay attention on what are you overclocking

 

Don't buy Apple M1 computers with 8GB of RAM
