if none of the hardware changes, it should work like a charm.

your PC won't even know anything is different.

but yes, ideally keep them in the same SATA ports.

you can just take a picture, unplug them, and then plug them into the same ports when you're rebuilding.

alright thanks, it should be easy enough to make sure they return to the proper ports
:)

  • I have three storage devices in my PC: a mechanical HDD, and two SSD's in RAID 1 (BIOS raid, not software)
  • I'm moving my PC into a new case, and my question is: do I have to keep the RAID drives in the same SATA ports on my motherboard, or will it recognize them if the ports are different in the reassembly?
  • I'm prepared to place tape around each SATA cable to ensure they got back into the same port on the motherboard

  • My motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO AM3+

If it's the same AMD Raid in modern Zen boards, you should be fine. When I first setup my 1800X build, I made some raids and purposely jumbled the sata cables around to see if they were affected at all. They were not. You'll have to check and make sure it's the same RAID though.
