I upgraded from the Geforce GT 730 2GB to the Geforce GTX 1060 without great result

Upgrade your RAM to at least 16GB.

Upgradethe CPU if possible to a 6300 or 8370 if you can. Ideally, Switch to a Ryzen 5 1600 or R7 1700 as these are better for priduction work than your current platform, even more so than Intel chips at the same price point.

Your CPU certainly sounds like it is holding you back.

Get a better CPU, Ryzen 5 1600x and up. I would recommend a Ryzen 7 1700 if you have the cash

I already have 16GB, but when I look at the monitor tool it looks quite maxed out. So I just ordered 32GB of Kingston Fury 1600.

If don't have the socket for the Ryzon on my mainboard and have to go with processor with the AM3+ socket.

When I'm going to build a new machine next year, I will go the Intel way.

Cancel that order. That RAM will not work in a new system. Ryzen and the new Intels all use DDR4 RAM.

If you want to spend money then start over with a Ryzen or i7 and DDR4.

Black Knight-

Ryzen 5 5600, GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Asrock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming,

Seasonic Focus GM 750, Samsung EVO 860 EVO SSD M.2, Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe, Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon

Daughter's Rig;

MSI B450 A Pro, Ryzen 5 3600x, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Silicon Power A55 512GB SSD, Gigabyte RX 5700 Gaming OC, Corsair CX430

As I mentioned in my earlier comments, building an entire new system is not an option for a couple of reasons at this moment in time.

When I do, I certainly will go the Intel route.

You are right, the CPU is crap and I see that it's maxed out when I monitor it.

At this point in time I have to stick with the AMD FX-series though.
