When would I have ROI if I used vega for mining eth?

This question came to my mind when I thought that I could buy a vega, mine and earn monet to buy a 1080ti

A 1060 6gb is better at mining when you take power draw into account

Avoid Vega at all costs (at least for mining). 

 

As for ROI, that's hard to say on any card.  When I added my last two 1070s in the second half of June, the estimated ROI for those cards was 2.5 months.  (That number does factor in the cost of the electricity for those 2.5 months etc)  

But because everyone and their dog started mining around that period, the difficulty quickly increased and the daily profit tanked, so now I'm looking at 6.5 months before I break even on those cards.

Never. Ethereum is going Proof of Stake soon instead of Proof of Work which will deeply cut into the money you make from what I've read.

POS is just an empty threat to stop others start mining to keep difficulty low.

 

It will come but not in the next few months. Metropolis hasn't been achieved yet and as long as Metropolis hasn't been properly established, Serenity (POS) won't come.

What does metropolis mean in this case

There are several milestones which define how the "ethereum universe/software" (my term) behaves.

Right now we are in Homestead. Metropolis is planned to be announced end of September which provides more flexibility for smart contracts.

Serenity however will change from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake (POS). But it's unknown when it will be announced. 

But w/o Metropolis being properly established, Serenity will not start.
