Hi all,

I am new to this, but I have tried searching for a topic that is similar to mine with no luck. My question is: Is it worth it to crossfire 2 r9 270x's on my ryzen pc.

Ryzen 3 1200 OC'd to 3.7

16 GB DDR4 OC'd to 3200mHz

Gigabyte r9 270x

MSI b350m Mortar Arctic

1 Toshiba 128GB SSD

1 Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm

Corsair sfx600 watt 80 plus gold

Thermaltake core v21

I know that my mobo supports crossfire with the second card running at x4, and I've read that you want at least x8 and x8, but crossfire is something that I have wanted to do for a while even if just buying a new card is better (one of my friends is selling me his r9 270x for cheap). Plus I can say that I am running dual graphics cards lol. I used extreme psu wattage calculator and it told me that a recommended psu requirement was 595watt and I've seen posts about other people running crossfire with my cards at 600 watts but the majority claim a 750 watt would be best. However, I doubt I will buy a new psu just to crossfire since I would like to upgrade to the gtx 1080ti in about a year.

Regardless, my main concerns are as follows:

How much of a hit to fps can I expect from running crossfire at x16 and x4?

Will my PSU be enough to supply power to both cards at load? (I will not be overclocking either of them)

If my PSU is enough, I would need the 4 pin molex to 6 pin adapters since I only have 2, 6 pin connectors on my PSU; so which adapters should I get?

Finally, I've read that linking the two graphics cards via a ribbon cable was necessary for cards up until the r9 290x's (don't quote me on that) so would I need a cable and if so what should I get?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I apologize if a similar question has been asked.

Only worth it if you already have a 270X, and can obtain your friend's card for cheap

1. It wont run at x4 speed. It's more likely to go at x8 and x8. In that case it wont slow down at all compared to x16 and x16.

2. Yes.

3. Depends. The PSU gives 2 6+2 PCIe power connectors. If your cards use 2 6pins then get two 8pin to 2 6pin adapter. Your PSU's 12V rail is strong enough, so dont worry.

4. Crossfire bridge.
