so i just purchased the Acer XG270HU 27 inch monitor.  its a 144hz 1440p display.  i love it but im running a gtx 960 gpu.  so come chrismas time, im going to be upgrading the gpu to either a 1070 or 1080.  hopefully by then they will be back to regular price.  so my question is which one?  right now im shockingly able to play most games at 1440p on medium to high settings with decent frame rates.  the games that i play are Call of duty, battlefield, overwatch etc.

why are you asking now thats so far away but get a 1080

You will need 1080 at the very least (high settings if you want 1440p at 144fps). 1080ti should allow very high settings or even ultra, but that's a lot more expensive.
