Reverse Engineer RF 2.4 Ghz Dongle (Remote Control)

tridy

Hi.

I have a TV that has a specially marked USB port where a USB RF dongle sits. Then remote control commnicates via RF 2.4 Ghz with that dongle and it works pretty much the same as an IR would do. The TV does not have an IR receiver, so this dongle is the only (actually CEC as well) way to control the TV.

I would like to explore how this USB dongle thing works, and implement another device that would send the "USB commands" to the TV.

When i try to connect this USB dongle to the computer, it says that it malfunctioned and there is not so much I could do with it.

Is there any USB mediator device that I can insert between the TV and dongle so that it would sniff the data?

Should I go with power meter first and oscilloscope to go on the lower level?

thanks.
