4K vs Full Hd|13-15 inches for university?

Hey guys, I am starting to study in 2 month and am debating over a few things. How is 4k on a 14-15 inch laptop?
I heard some thing about scaling and stuff but I'd like a clear answer from someone with experience :) (Especially the yoga 910 4K option)
To people with 13" ultrabooks: are you happy with your decision? would you rather have a heavier 15" laptop?
And the opposite to people with 15", would you rather have a lighter laptop to lug around?

Thanks!

IMO if you're doing work that needs a nice display like video editing, get a 4k display as 4k display usually have wider colour range (sRGB, NTSC, Adobe RGB etc)

For uni/college I recommend 13/14 inch thin, light laptops. My 15 inch Y520 is quite heavy to carry around with its charger and now I'm a bit regretting of not getting a lighter laptop, nevertheless I need the performance so it's okay

Desktop specs:

what are you going to study? if it's something where colors are important get 4k, because most of the time they also have specs that zm Fong alreadyu mentioned.

if you dont do anything color related i'd go for 1080p, since there are less pixels to calculate and light so you can do longer with a battery charge

I am not going to study something color related(Biology&Psychology) but having a high quality screen is really important to me, also If i'd get a 4k screen I'll get something the Hp Spectre X360 or the Yoga 920 which will still get me about 8 hours of battery life, I am debating whether 4K is worth it or not since I have no experience with it

His point is, 1080p definitely has more battery life on the same laptop. So basically your major trade-off is the battery life if you don't care about color accuracy.

I mean besides battery life, what other trade-offs are there? Is scaling working properly now? Are most softwares adjusted already?

There are still some scaling issues with Windows 10 (not heavily major, but minor annoyances) and not all apps properly adjusted to the Windows scaling. If I were you, I'd go for 1080p as I want the battery to last longer during my usage as well. There are still some laptops with good 1080p screens out there with nice color coverage like Dell XPS 13 and HP Spectre x360 13.3"

I have a 13.3" QHD+ laptop I use for school. If I could go back in time I would have gotten the 1080p version for better battery life (plus it was matte, I think I only used the touch screen on this laptop a few times when I first got it). Unless you're doing graphical or video editting I don't really think 14-15" laptop will get the most out of a 4K display.

The laptop I had before the Zenbook was a fairly heavy Sony Vaio 15.6" laptop and I have to say, my back/shoulders was so much happier I got a thinner and lighter laptop after a year of carrying that around in my bag (along with books). My next laptop is going to be FHD 14". I find that's the best sweet spot for screen size on a laptop. Smaller laptops are so much better to manage for school IMO. Not only do they take up less desk space, they take up less bag space too. And that's with a protective sleeve/case.
