It should just auto detect which device you are currently using (pressing a button on either device)

And auto-switch the controls.

I'm wondering if it's possible to use a keyboard and mouse for groundplay ( incl tanks, softarmor, AA etc..) but also have a gamepad running simultaneously that I can switch to when I jump into choppers, jets.

Good to know, thank you! I really didn't want to relearn controls on a m and kb for air vehicles.
