Bitcoin alternative that is profitable?

So yeah..

I kind of want to start mining. Which currency should I start with? I think its already stated that you pay more for the power consumption from a machine compared to that of what you gain from mining bitcoins. 

Any help would be appreciated.

As already said, litecoin. 

 

Find out the hash rate you will get with your GPU and then input it into a litecoin calculator, with an estimate of power use and how much you pay for electricity.

Using the current difficulty, it will give you estimates of profit.

Litecoin my 7970 gets 555 khash and will earn about 13 dollars a day.
