So I have the NZXT S340 Elite case, and I am considering to maybe mod the top I/O part of the case to add in a USB Type-C port. I checked the case, and next to the HDD LED, there is about 1.5 inches of flat metal with no electronics. If I am to drill a hole the size of a Type-C port and reroute a USB-C extension cable from the rear I/O to the top, what would that entail? What materials would I need? How hard would it be? And also while I'm in there, is it possible to fit a micro sd card reader next to it too? Thanks!

As long as you are able to make a clean cutout for the port it will work, you can get a panel mount extension cable such as this and have it pass through to the back for a connection.

for a cutout like this I would typically use my pencil air powered rotary tool (basically a Dremel on steroids and a lot easier to control) and a set of carbide bits. Same tools used to polish intake manifolds deep in the runners. Finish it off with precision files and then hobby sanding sticks. Other than that pretty straight forward.
